How to Make an Aasimar Ranger

Start the character creation process by rolling die for your ability stats. Place the highest roll under Dexterity. The next-highest roll should go to Wisdom. However, if you want a ranger who uses two-weapon fighting instead of archery, make Strength your highest stat.

The next step to designing your character is to pick an Aasimar subrace. There are three options: Protector Aasimar, Scourge Aasimar, and Fallen Aasimar.

If you want to optimize, pick Protector Aasimar for the +1 Wisdom score or Fallen Aasimar for a +1 Strength score.

After that, you want to decide on a Ranger Archetype or subclass. There are two in the Player’s Handbook: Hunter and Beast Master. The Hunter archetype makes you an effective predator against your chosen prey. The Beast Master archetype gives you an animal companion that can aid you in and out of battle.

Finally, pick a background for your character. The ideal background for the Ranger class is the Outlander background. However, feel free to pick something you feel is more suitable for your Aasimar Ranger.

How to Play an Aasimar Ranger

Now, it’s time to use your Aasimar Ranger in the game. There’s a big chance you’ll get into a battle encounter on your first game. As a Ranger, you should know to keep your distance from your foes. Along with magic users like the Wizard and Sorcerer, you’ll make up the backline.

Rangers are spellcasters too. A unique Range spell is the Hunter’s Mark. Always cast this on every foe you’re aiming for before you aim for them. It is a ranger’s most useful tool that ensures a high and consistent damage output.

If you’re up against your favored enemy, remember that you’ve got an advantage against it. Your party also has some advantages whenever they are all in your favored terrain.

How to Roleplay as an Aasimar Ranger

Finally, the last thing you have to do is to learn how to roleplay as your Aasimar Ranger. Whenever you roleplay, try to embody your character. Doing this can be as simple as using an accent.

If you’re terrible at accents, you can also adopt physical quirks instead. For example, whenever your character tries to make a point, her/her hands become more animated. You might smile each time you say something untrue. Your voice might rise whenever you’re bargaining something.

Knowing your character’s backstory can also help you get into his/her mindset better. After all, it’s what created the character. For example, coming from a rustic background can make you more frugal and simplistic.
